Jantje Jacobs was the daughter of Heiman Jacobs and Duifje van Dam. The Jacobs's lived on the Achterom (Wijde steeg) in Lemmer. They had three children: Mette, Jantje and another child. Heiman Jacobs was a merchant. He died in December 1923, as did Duifje in December 1934.
Jantje Jacobs never married. She worked for many years as a district nurse with the Groene Kruis section Oosterzee-Echten. On 21 December 1940, she received a special farewell at an extraordinary meeting of members after 22 years of service. Johannes Zijlstra, the section chairman at the time, praised her dedication throughout her lengthy service. The following seventeen speakers expressed admiration for her as well. She received a bicycle at this farewell reception.
Jantje Jacobs was deported to Auschwitz, her sister Mette to Sobibor. Their names appear on the memorial next to the Jewish cemetery at Tacozijl. A street in Echtenerbrug has been named after Jantje Jacobs as well.
