About Johan Slager

Johan Slager was married. In 1942, he and his wife had a baby, which was born in Belgium. The Slager family tried to flee the nazis via Belgium, as did Johan's mother Saartje Zeehandelaar. They payed a large sum of money for their flight. All thirteen family-members were betrayed. They were held in camp Breedonck close to Antwerp and were deported from Mechelen to Auschwitz  Johan Slager with Convoy VII of 04th September 1942, Aron Slager with Convoy VIII of 8th September 1942, an aunt with Convoy V of 25th August 1942 and others on Convoy VI of 27th August 1942.

Johan's wife was saved, after having given birth, by members of the resistance movement. She survived the war in hiding in Belgium.

The mayor of Steenwijk requested that Johan Slager, accountant, living in Steenwijk, be located, detained and brought to trial. He was suspected of having changed his place of residence without the required authorization. This description referred to Jews who had gone into hiding.
