Biography

About Jacob Frankenhuis

In 1927 Jacob Frankenhuis and his brother Salomon Jonas Frankenhuis had the house in the Blankenburgerstraat in Haaksbergen converted to a combined butcher shop and residence. The slaughterhouse was out back.

Jacob had a humpback and wore a makeshift corset. He never married. He was more of a cattle dealer than a butcher. On 16 December 1930 the butcher shop became fully owned by his brother Salomon Jonas Frankenhuis.

In 1942 Jacob Frankenhuis had to report to the Overbroek labour camp (community of Echtveld). On Friday afternoon, 2 October 1942, he and his fellow camp inmates were transferred to Westerbork, from where he was deported to Auschwitz.
