About Josef Aaron Cohen

Jozef Aaron Cohen was married to Marie Duitscher (b. 1886 in Leek). They had a son, Louis Salomon. The Cohens lived on the Brink in Dwingeloo. They also had a textile goods shop there. On 17 July 1942 Mayor De la Saussaye Briët received orders from the Meppel Arbeitsamt to instruct Jozef Aaron Cohen to report to the Westerbork camp commander on Monday 20 July 1942 with Hartog Leman Vos, also of Dwingeloo. Marie Cohen-Duitscher was later brought to Westerbork, together with all Jewish women still living in Dwingeloo. Their son Louis Salomon had already been summoned to Westerbork. On 17 August 1942 he was deported to Auschwitz, where he was killed. On 5 October 1942 Jozef Aaron Cohen and his wife were deported from Westerbork to Auschwitz, where they were both killed.
