Emanuel Schelvis and his family

Emanuel Schelvis was a son of Aaron Schelvis and Sientje Weinperle. He was married to Rosetta Swartberg, a daughter of Levie Swartberg and Maria Vissel. Before her marriage Rosetta worked in accounting at her brother Barend’s business, Zakkenhandel Swartberg. Her husband came from Amsterdam and also worked for Barend’s company.
Three years after their marriage, Rosetta, her husband and her father, who lived with them, left for Amsterdam. Emanuel started a business there, but in 1935 he was working as a labourer and in 1941 he was registered as a travelling salesman.
Their daughter Francina Maria worked as an office assistant and in 1941 she was working as a telegraph operator. She was engaged to be married to a chemist when the war broke out.
