Jozef Swartberg was a son of Levie Swartberg and Maria Vissel. He got married to Hendrika Frank, who was a daughter of Isaac Elkan Frank and Hanna Cohen. The couple had three children. Their daughter Marie, who still lived at home and their son Louis Swartberg, who resided at another address, died during the war. Their third child survived the war.
