According to a former boy-next-door Jacob Querido and his family were very poor. At times Jacob Querido dealt in fruit. When he was taken away his wife Rachel Waterman screamed continuously for the whole night. When later the rest of the family was taken away Mordechai (Morrie) Querido fled to the neighbours who tried to hide him. When he heard his mother scream and cry however he ran after them like mad.
