Barend de Koning and Mina van Gelderen married on 3 March 1915 in Leiden. They had five children of which two died before the war at a young age. The remaining three children, Anna (born in 1915), Rosetta (born in 1917) and Willem Mozes (born in 1919) didn't survive the war.
