Floortje Blok was married to Hessel Lelyveld, who was a market stallholder. Hessel died during the war, after suffering three strokes. Floortje went into hiding in a house on Ververstraatje together with her unmarried children. She was betrayed by a man whose wife had left him for one of Floortje’s sons.

Hessel Lelyveld and Floortje Blok had twelve children. Eight children, Wolf, Barend, Salomon, Simon, Esther, Herman, Dora and Mourits, died during the war.
