Hermann Falkenstein and his family

Hermann and Henriette Falkenstein were originally from Recklinghausen. They moved to Vlissingen in the 1930s, where they started a shop selling women’s clothing. In 1942, they were forced to close down. They moved in with their daughter in Deventer, and soon went into hiding in that same city. In 1943 their place of hiding was given away. Hermann and Henriette Falkenstein had three children, one of whom had died before the war. Hilde Held-Falkenstein died of the Spanish flu in South Africa in 1940. Two other children survived the war by emigrating.
