David Cohen was the son of Levie David Cohen and Johanna Frankenhuis. In 1918 he got married to Branco Cohen, daughter of Hartog Joseph Cohen and Frouke Meijer. The couple had three children: Louis, Hartog and Johanna. Later David Cohen got married to Matje van Dantzich, daughter of Izak van Dantzich and Saartje Cohen.
