Benjamin Spiero was the son of Abraham Spiero and Kaatje Wolff. He was a merchant in fruit. In 1908 he married Sara Verveer, daughter of Emanuel Verveer and Rebecca Wilkens. The couple had five children: Abraham, Emanuel, Catharina, Betsy and one child that may have survived the war.
