Ruben Salomon van Coevorden and Sophia de Jong had four children. Two daughters who resided at another address, Rachel Roosje and Roosje Annetta, died during the war. Another child who resided at another address and a child who lived at the same address of their parents survived the war.

During the war, Salomon van Coevorden, Sophia de Jong and Rebekka van Coevorden went into hiding at the pumping station Overwater. The man living in Overwater was not known to be a passionate reader. Nevertheless he supplied his hidden housemates with books obtained at the local library.
The two other people in hiding were helped by a resistancegroup from The Hague. In June 1943 the members of this resistancegroup were arrested and the SD discovered a list with names and addresses of people depending on their help. As a result the SD came to pumping-station Overwater and arrested Sophia de Jong, Ruben Salomon van Coevorden the two other people in hiding.
