Hartog van der Velde, son of Juda van der Velde, a workman, and Elisabeth Pimentel, married Johanna Swart, the second of Salomon Swart and Grietje Deutz's seven children, in Amsterdam on 17 September 1924. The couple had four children: Elisabeth, Salomon, Greta and a child that survived the war. Hartog van der Velde was a cigar maker.
Copies remain of Hartog van der Velde and Johanna Swart's marriage certificate and of the birth certificates of Elisabeth, Salomon and Greta van der Velde.
