Emanuel Rosenbaum was the son of Joseph Rosenbaum and Sara Lebenstein. Henriette (Henni) van Zijl was the daughter of Abraham van Zijl and Augusta van der Walde.
Emanuel and Henni married in 1907.

The mayor of Oude Pekela requested that Erich Rosenbaum, his mother Henni Rosenbaum-van der Zijl and his sister Herta Rosenbaum be located, detained and brought to trial. They were suspected of having left Oude Pekela and changed their place of residence without the required authorization. This description referred to Jews who had gone into hiding.
