Philip Zwarts was married to Rachel van Leer, daughter of Leman van Leer and Vrougje Roos. The couple had two daughters, Dina and Vrougje. The family lived in Meppel, at first on the Vledderstraat, later on the Bankastraat. Philip Zwarts was a butcher at the Jewish export butcher Van der Sluis on the Ezingerweg.
On 20 July 1942 he was summoned to the labour camp in Orvelte. On 3 October 1942 - Philip was home on leave - he was removed from his home with his wife and daughters and deported to Auschwitz via Westerbork.
