Siegmund Klein was a lawyer in Cologne. After the Kristallnacht in 1938 he fled to Amsterdam with his wife Helene. His son Walter had emigrated to Amsterdam in the summer of 1938 and worked at Oxyde, a company owned by German friends of the family. Siegmund and his wife also had an older daughter who survived the war.
