Elkan Jacobs was the son of Jacob Jacobs, a rags dealer, and Hester Droomer. He was a carpenter by trade. He married Esther Cats on 1 Februari 1922. She was a teacher at that time. From this marriage three children were born: Jacob, Antje and Joël.
