Abraham was the son of Josua Ortje and Klaartje Lijmer. He married in 1900 to Roosje Pach. After the dead of Roosje in 1922 Abraham married to Martha Bierschenk.
Three of the six children of his first marriage died short after their birth. The other three children were Joseph, Clara and a child that probably survived the war.
