Jacob Stad was a son of Abraham Stad and Betje Spaanbroek. On 12 July 1905, he married Jetje Levie, daughter of Levie Philippus Levie and Sara Cohen, in Rotterdam. They had a small shop selling electrical appliances at the Voldersgracht in Delft. The couple had three children: Saartje, who was married to Hartog Alter, Abraham, married to Elimetta Sons, and Betje, married to Wolf Kloot.
