Hartog Andries Groenewoudt was the son of Andries Samuel Groenewoudt and Sara Levie. He was a meat carver as well as a ritual butcher. He was first married to Kaatje Hijmans. The couple had three children: Lea, Sara and Andries. After Kaatje Hijmans had died, Hartog Andries Groenewoudt married Louisa Eva Cohen.
During the war the family house at the Emmasingel was sold to Philips Electronics for expantion of its factory.
