'Sparrows'
Sytze van der Zee, author of Vogelvrij. The hunt for the Jews in
hiding '(2010)

The betrayal of Salomon Charmatz and Ilsa Jacobson
and what follows extensively described (p. 386-390). Their arrest
took place a year later than now mentioned: on 23 March 1944. They
were then submerged in Jacob Gerrit Busser on Stadionweg 3 II. The
couple would be betrayed by Amalie Bauckhage, the non-Jewish wife
of Rudolf Pollak, a German-Jewish refugee. Pollak has worked since
1942 for the Serbian Jew amongst other things and had an extensive
network. He played an important role in the distribution of ration
cards, for 'Aryanization' through the Hague firm of Hans G. Calmeyer
and had a filing cabinet with hidden addresses. I myself know that he
especially worked to one of his helpers hiding and that some of the
hidden addresses were in the Haarlemmermeer. Van der Zee weather:
Salomon and Ilsa Charmatz previously involved the couple Pollak-
Bauckhage the Antonie van Dijckstraat 7 been in hiding, as Pollak by
investigators from the Hague police arrested on Thursday, March 23,
1944, strikes (called Documentation Department.) his wife during a
search by. Salomon and Ilsa Charmatz, hiding giver Busser, Rudolf
and Amalie Pollak, plus Rudolf's mother Flora Parille yet to be
arrested on the same day and taken to the Scheveningen prison. Much
more hiding or befriended Jews now at risk. Follow on 24 and 25
March even more arrests. It gets worse as Rudolf Pollak during his
arrest consents as V-man to work for the Gestapo. Rudolf Pollak,
Amalie Bauckhage and Flora Parille be released after some time.
However, the couple Charmatz is sent to Westerbork and murdered
five months later in Auschwitz. Rudolf Pollak is not long afterwards
murdered in Amsterdam. Two resistance fighters of the Knok plows
(KP) shoot him on November 17, 1944 at the corner of the Cormelis
Schuytsraat and John Verhulststraat down. A day later he dies in the
'Western Hospital (Wilhelminagasthuis).
