My grandfather was a friend of Meijer...his name was Levie Deen and moved from Amsterdam to settle in Loosdrecht before WW2. Levie (Louis) is mentioned in the book about Meijer printed during 1983...the book belongs to my mother Erica Moen-Deen. Meijer painted my grandfather and also my mother. She remembers travelling from Loosdrecht to Amsterdam to sit for many hours for the painting to be completed. She was 14 at the time (1938) The painting was taken back to her home "The Nieuw Brug" and disappeared during the war ...probably stolen and she often wonders what happened to it. I have attached a photo of her not long after the painting was completed...
