Berlin Emigrants

By: rpm_bln

Philipp Hefter was the director of the company "Immobilien und Reklame, GmbH" (Real Estate and Advertising Inc.) and a restaurant owner in Berlin. His family, who lived on Kalckreuthstr. 9 in Berlin-Schöneberg (and later at Wittenbergplatz 3) emigrated to Amsterdam on 19.01.1939. According to the German Fedearal Archives Memorial Book, his son Berthold was in Buchenwald Camp prior to Dachau. Dorothy Hefter, born 09.12.1887 in Berlin, was probably his younger sister, as her 1939 address in Berlin is the same as Philipp's. Dorothy was living on Prinzregentenstr. 5 in Berlin-Wilmersdorf when she went into hiding in April 1943, but was arrested and deported with the 41. Transport of 24.08.1943 from Berlin to Auschwitz, where she perished. (Stadsarchief Amsterdam, Bundesarchiv Gedenkbuch, Gedenkbuch Berlins)
