The last postcard from the Israel van Gelder family, written in the train to Poland and sent to Mr. B. Meenks in Hengelo. The text in translation reads as follows:
Train, 17 March 1943.
Dear all,
My husband and I are in the train bound for an unknown destination in Poland. We could not run away from our fate but we do not loose our spirit and we hope that once we shall be united again with everything and all we love. Pray for us, that this war may soon be ended. We have also seen Hettie de L. Our love to all people we know from the Johannaweg.
Also from me a last farewell. We keep up our spirits and are with full confidence heading for the future. We have had bad luck but if we come through, than we have had all the misery there was.
Farewell, Father.
