The Arnhem police commissioner requested that Salomo Israël, residing in Arnhem, be located, detained and brought to trial. He was suspected of having changed his place of residence without the required authorization. This description referred to Jews who had gone into hiding.

Flight to Belgium

It appears Salomo Israel fled illegally to Belgium, as he was deported on Transport XIV from Mechelen to Auschwitz on 24.10.1942. His actual date of death is 22.11.1942. (Mecheln-Auschwitz 1942-1944, List of Names of the Deportees, VUB Press, Brüssel, 2009, Death Books of Auschwitz).

Friend of my grandfather

Salomo Israel was a friend of my grandfather.
On his wedding he gave my grandfather 4 antique pictures from Arnhem. My mother has them now.
I,ve heard he wanted to go to Switserland but he was betrayed by someone and they deported him to Auschwitz.
I,m gonna adopt his name for a national monument for all victims in Holland from the holocaust.
