I am the daughter of Bettje Wijler, who was one of the few Jewish survivors of Lochem. Others who survived were Amalia Bamberg Wijler (my Oma), Samuel, Mieke, Natan And Dolf Wijler (my Mother's cousins, who were orphaned.)
My mother speaks highly of her next door neighbours and the public health nurse, who helped her family leave Lochem for hiding palaces. However, their compassionate assistance and bravery were the exception ...for Lochem predominently a bastion of NSB activity, and her beloved and family community were slaughtered.
