Dachau

One of the first concentration camps in Germany, near Munich. Dachau was the model for other concentration camps.

The camp opened in 1933 to intern political prisoners. An SS training school was located on the grounds, and the recruits ’practised‘ on prisoners. After Kristallnacht tens of thousands of Jews were imprisoned at Dachau. Many were forced to work in the war industry at one of the Aussenkommando around Dachau.
