Gestapo

The GE(heime) STA(ats)PO(lizei), meaning secret state police, was in charge of domestic security and indirectly of the concentration camps.

Its scope of authority comprised both the German Reich and the occupied territories. The Gestapo was a division of the Reichssicherheitshauptamt. In Amsterdam the Gestapo head office was on the Euterpestraat, where the SD and the Sipo had their offices as well. The Gestapo was feared because of the torture techniques used and was a driving force in persecuting the Jews.
