Hakhsharah

Preparation for migration to contemporary Palestine.

Jewish young adults embraced Zionist ideals and prepared to make the new land habitable. Known as Palestine pioneers, these people received extensive training prior to emigrating to the British Mandate of Palestine. There were several training centres throughout the Netherlands. The centres for young people under 18 were run by the Youth Aliyah. Hakhsharah centres based on various ideologies served those over 18. During the 1940s the different centres were coordinated by the Joodse Centrale Beroepsopleiding.
