Roelof Karel Citroen lived like a dandy. His younger brother Abraham, who was running the jewelry shop of their parents Karel Salomo Roelof Citroen (1858-1924) and Suzanne Fedder (1865-1937), provided for him.
In January 1942, Roelof Citroen was sent to work in the camp Sellingerbeetse in the province of Groningen, together with 400 other Jews from Amsterdam.
On August 20th, he was admitted to hospital in Winschoten, with wounds to his arms. Six days later, he committed suicide there.
