Biography

About the sisters Esther and Clara Gompers.

Esther and Clara Gompers were daughters of Philip Barend Gompers and Heintje Jacob Boas. Esther was born 28 January 1873 and Clara, eight years younger, was born 5 July 1881. Both were unmarried; Esther had been working as shop lady and Clara still worked as office clerk.

Of the couple Philip Barend Gompers and Heintje Jacob Boas, seven children have been killed during the Holocaust: Esther she herself and Clara,, but also her siblings MietjeSaraEliazerHartog and Levie.

Esther and Clara lived together with their eldest sister Sara, who was unmarried too, at Nieuwe Achtergracht 111 1st floor in Amsterdam. There were arrested at their home on 2 February 1943 and via Hollandsche Schouwburg taken to Westerbork. On 9 February they were put on transport with more than 1180 other deportees to Auschwitz and on arrival there on 12 February they were immediately killed.
