Simon From was married to a non-Jewish woman. Both his wife and their two children survived the war.

Simon From was the son of Jacob From and Johanna Kropveld. He played the clarinet in Ter Apel's Dülmer orchestra. In 1938 he moved from Ter Apel to Winschoten, where he opened a thriving grocery shop.
