People who as children were neighbours of Jacob Hamel recall that he always sat by his open window when the weather was fine. They would go sit on his windowsill and talk about all sorts of things. Before they went home, they would sing a song together. Jacob often sat there in his dressing gown. He rarely went outside. Once, the children were allowed to come in, because Jacob wanted to show them a player piano. The children were impressed, because they had never seen anything like it before.
