About Esra Jurovics

Esra Jurovics was a ward at the youth aliyah home in Loosdrecht, the Paviljoen Loosdrechtse Rade, from 10 January 1942 until 7 December 1942. He was fluent in Hebrew and studied Tenakh.

Esra's father Samuel Majer Jurovics (17.08.1888 in Kosica) was a book dealer and bible researcher. He lived with his mother Edith Jurovics-Wachsner (04.08.1895 in Neisse) and 5 siblings at Wullenweberstr. 4-5 in Berlin Tiergarten until emigration to Brussels around 1937. Esra Jurovics had a brother Benjamin who survived the war and lived in 1999 in Israel. His brother Rafael survived the war as well, and is also in Israel. Moishe Miller from Brooklyn (moishe@langsam.com) made a genealogical tree of the family, so maybe he can tell you more about the father.

Comments by Esra's sister

Esra could not be at the Youth Aliya Home in Loosdrecht until 7. December 1942, because, according to the transport lists of the Yad Vashem archives he was deported to Auschwitz on 3. November 1942. Therefore he must have gone into hiding in Friesland earlier.

He is also commemorated on a memorial in Kibbutz Sheluhot in Israel, where his sister Miriam is a member.
