Aktion Erntefest

By:

German code name (Operation 'Harvest Festival') for an operation conducted in the Polish region of Lublin, in which all Jewish inmates of labour camps were shot by firing squads.

On 3 and 4 November 1943, all Jews being held in labour camps in the region of Lublin in eastern Poland were murdered. The camps in question included those in Blizyn, Dorohucza, Lublin, Majdanek and Trawniki. A few hundred of the roughly 42,000 people who were murdered in this operation were of Dutch nationality. Because of the impossibility of establishing the precise date of their death, this date was determined as the last day of the month, 30 November.
