Nico Louis Herschel werkte voor het Nederlandsche Verificatie Bureau te Den Haag als verficateur met als standplaats Arnhem en omgeving. Als ambtenaar voor de overhead werd hij ontslagen in 1941

Nico Louis Herschel and Malchen Weijel were zionists. They were members of the Deventer group of Palestine pioneers. In 1942, they had a child, which survived the war in hiding, as it was given into the care of a family in Oosterbeek.
