Jaap (Jacob) ging van 26 januari 1925 tot eind juli 1935 naar de Amsterdamse dovenschool.

In 1935 verliet Jaap de dovenschool en werd hij geplaatst bij een particulier patroon-meubelmaker. Jacob was leerling-meubelmaker. Toch staat er ook vermeld dat hij in juli 1935 – net als zijn vader – in de vruchtenhandel zat.

In 1937 staat nog vermeld dat hij het goed deed op de avondschool van Patrimonium.
