In addition, a Jokos file (number 16656) on this household is at the Amsterdam Municipal Archive. Access is subject to authorization from the Stichting Joods Maatschappelijk Werk.The Jokos file reveals that a claim was lodged for compensation for valuables surrendered to the Lippmann-Rosenthal looting bank (L-claim, number 3904/15049).

Hersch Josef (Herman) Gerschtanowitz werd geboren op 28 november 1887 in Lodz (Polen). Hij was getrouwd met Chaia Ehrlich (Zdunska-Wola, 3 mei 1888 – Auschwitz, 5 oktober 1942), de zus van Abraham Tuschinski’s vrouw Mariam (Manja). Herman werd in Auschwitz vermoord op 5 oktober 1942.

Herman komt in 1912 naar Rotterdam. Hij gaat dan wonen in Hotel Polski op de Nadorststraat 27, het bedrijf van zij…
