Verhaal Berthold Rosenstock

By: Annemiek

Berthold grew up in the Jewish Orphanage in Frankfurt after his mother's death in 1918/9. He was three years old. In 1938 his brother Gershon (Georg) emigrated to America under an affadavit issued by his aunt Pauline Pearl's family in New Jersey. His brother declined to use the affadavit and decided instead to remain and work with the Hehalutz Zionist youth movement and the Berlin Aliyah school that was a part of it. The picture shows him with the director of the school, Jizchak Schwersenz. He later went to Hummelo, Holland where he directed a Hachsharah camp. He was arrested April 10, 1043 by the Gestapo.(Info from http://www.nljewgen.org/content/hummelo.html where he is listed under the name Berthold Mendel Israel Judenfreund, the name on his stateless passport, and from http://www.joodsmonument.nl/person-408344-en.html:
