Biography

About Isaac de Vries and his family.

Isaac de Vries was  a son of Manus de Vries and Clara Bilderbeek. He married 9 February 1910 in Amsterdam Clara Visser, a daughter of Israël Visser and Judik Stibbe. The couple had two children, namely Emanuel in 1910 and Judic in 1921.

Isaac de Vries was vendor by profession and traded in among others haberdasheries and cloth. After their marriage, the lived in Amsterdam at Keizerstraat, Dijkstraat, Kromboomsloot, Gelderschekade and at  St. Antoniebreestraat. The family stayed also in Nijkerk and Utrecht (Amsterdamsestraatweg 127). In 1923 Isaac obtained a market permit for a stand on Nieuwmarkt where he sold haberdasheries. In 1933 the lived at St. Antoniebreestraat 25, per 15 April 1935 their address was Amsterdamsestraatweg 224 and  Lijmarkt 13 in Utrecht; in 1940 they stayed shortly in Amsterdam at Jonas Daniel Meijerplein 16 II but returned after a few months again to Lijnmarkt 13 in Utrecht. Their last known address was Koningsweg 111 in Utrecht..

Emanuel de Vries, who still lived at home with his parents, was unmarried and also a vendor of all kinds of merchandise. In 1934 he had a stand at Nieuwmarkt in Amsterdam too, where he sold haberdasheries.

His sister Judic de Vries was married to Abraham Wijnberg, who was born  14 May 1916 in Leek (Groningen) Both have survived the Holocaust by going into hiding. On 16 October 1945 their names occurred on "list Eindhoven" with their new address  J.Liefers in Wapenveld (Overijssel) but in 1948 they moved to Veemarkt in Zwolle.

On 12 June 1943 Isaac de Vries, his wife Clara Visser and son Emanuel de Vries  were carried off to Westerbork where they had to stay in barrack 63. On 29 June they were deported to Sobibor and on arrival there on 2 July 1943 immediately killed.
