Read here how to add a photo to the Digital Jewish Monument.

You can only add an image if you have an account on the Jewish Digital Monument and are logged in. Don’t have an account yet? Register here.

Step 1: Add media item

To add a photo of someone, go to that person’s page on the monument. There you’ll find the button ‘Contribute’. Click on it and then select ‘Add media item’. A new window will open.

Click on the ‘Select media item’ button to choose the digital file from your computer.

Double-click the file of your choice or click it once and choose open.

Provide a caption of the photo and include the source. For example: ‘Private collection’ or ‘Amsterdam City Archives’. This is a required field. Then click ‘Upload file’.

Step 2: Edit description

In the menu that appears, you can optionally edit the description via ‘edit’.

Step 3: Link other persons to the photo

There’s also the option to tag other persons that are listed on the monument in the photo.Type the name of the person you’re looking for and click on the person you want to select. At the top of the expanded menu, you’ll see the linked persons. You can remove them by clicking the crosses. Are all the people in the photo correctly linked? Then click 'ok'.

Step 4: Edit Copyright

Copyright is automatically set to ‘Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike’. This means others may reuse your contribution for non-commercial purposes, as long as they credit your name and the source (Digitaal Joods Monument). Prefer not to allow reuse? Choose ‘All rights reserved’. Others may not reuse your contribution. If you choose ‘Free to use’, others may reuse your contribution without restriction. This means you waive your copyright. You can read more about copyright and Privacy Legislation here. Choose your desired copyright and click ‘Save and close’.

Step 5: Optionally add more photos

Via the ‘Add media file’ button, you can optionally add more photos of the same person. For each photo, you can repeat steps 2, 3, and 4 separately in the overview.

Step 6: Add image

Click the ‘Save’ button at the top bar. You’ve now supplemented the person’s page with the selected photo(s).

Do you have a photo of an unknown person?

In that case, you can include the photo in a general story or call via the ‘Member Contributions’ page. You must also be registered and logged in to do this.
