Abraham Boas (1908-1943)
FAMILY
Abraham's father, Samuel had died in 1939,his mother Esther Boas-Lakmaker was murdered in Sobibor in 1943 and his sister Kaatje was murdered in Auschwitz in 1942.His wife Rozetta van Praagh was murdered in Sobibor in 1943.
His elder brother Philip (my father) survived Bergen Belsen with his family, wife Sara Schoonhoed and two sons Samuel and Elias. They not only survived Bergen Belsen but also "The Lost train" returning to Holland in june 1945. With a cousin, they were the only survivors of the extended Boas family.
Philip had served in the Dutch army fighting the Germans at Grebbeberg. He died in 1948 as a result of war sufferings and of the stress caused by the treatment he endured from the Dutch bureaucracy.
Sara who had her total Schoonhoed family murdered by the Nazis. Sara immigrated to Australia with her children in 1954. She passed away in 2001.
