Gerrit Meents was a son of Hartog David Meents and Jansje de Brave. He married Lea Fles in 1897 in Amsterdam. The couple had five children: Marianna, Jetje, Saartje, Emanuel and a child that survived the war. Lea Fles died in July 1940. Gerrit Meents remarried Sara Beesemer on 10 September 1941. In 1940 Sara Beesemer was still registered as widow Papegaaij-Beesemer at Plantage Middenlaan 40. The final place of residence of Gerrit Meents and Sara Meents-Beesemer was Lepelkruisstraat 11 II in Amsterdam.
