Joseph de la Fuente was a son of David de la Fuente and Gracia Farro. He married 30 March 1892 in Amsterdam to Rachel Sitters, daughter of Manuel Marcus Sitters and Sipora Cohen Farro. The couple had three daughters, Klara, Sippora and Gracia, who did not survive the Holocaust. Their fourth daughter Rachel passed away aged 25, and was interred in the Portuguese Israelitic Cemetery at Ouderkerk aan de Amstel on 30 June 1925.
