Arthur Mendel was a son of Max Mendel and Rosi Mühlfelder. Two of the three children from that family survived the war. Arthur's hobby was genealogy. In November 1938 he was sent to Buchenwald. In February 1939 he went to Westerbork. He married there. On 4 September 1944 he was deported to Theresienstadt. From there he was deported to Auschwitz at the end of September.

Arthur Mendel, a librarian by profession, was a son of Max Mendel and of the deceased Toni Herzfeld. Arthur was married at Westerbork transit camp on 17 February 1943. His wife survived the war.
