Nehemia de Lieme came from an orthodox Jewish family. In 1912, he became chairman of the Dutch Zionist League (NZB) and he was generally considered as the most important figure spawned by the Zionist movement in the Netherlands.
In June 1940, an obituary was placed in the Nieuw Israëlietisch Weekblad for Nehemia de Lieme. De Lieme was 58 years old when he died. His address is given as 313 Waalsdorperweg in The Hague.
