About Werner Rudolf Breslauer

Werner Rudolf Breslauer fled in 1938 with his family to the Netherlands. He lived on the Lorentzkade 8 and temporarily gave shelter there to other refugees. In September 1940 he was forced to move to Alphen a/d Rijn. From there he moved to Utrecht in 1941.

In Westerbork Breslauer's great knowledge of photography aroused the interest of the camp commandant Gemmeker, who made him Westerbork’s official camp photographer. Werner Rudolf Breslauer took numerous photographs of the camp and worked on the over 70-minutes-long ‘Westerbork film’ at the beginning of 1944.
