Henriëtte Steilberger grew up in Krefeld, Germany. There, she married Maurits Juda Levie Cohen (1883-1937) from Hengelo, in 1912. The couple moved to Hengelo. They were in the fruit trade. Together, they had eleven children, seven of whom died within a month of their birth. Four children reached adulthood: three of them lived with their mother; daughter Johanna lived in Amsterdam with her husband and child. No member of this family survived the war.
