Hartog Valk and his family

On 12 April 1916 in Sleen, Hartog Valk married Aaltien Zilverberg born in 1899 in Emmen. The couple had three children: Izaäk, Jonas and Maurits. The family lived at 14 Schooldijk in Nieuw Amsterdam, Emmen. Hartog was a butcher in Nieuw Amsterdam. After the death of mother Aaltien Valk, an older sister of Hartog Valk, Jetta Valk-Valk helped to raise the children.

Izaäk Valk was called up mid 1942 to work in one of the Jewish work camps. On Saturday morning, 3 October 1942, Hartog Valk and his two other sons Jonas and Maurits were taken from Ter Apel to Westerbork in a bus owned by the Bergman company.
